ARFF Training

Overview

Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) is a specialized field that requires knowledge of aircraft, foam application, victim extrication, ARFF principles, and mass casualty incidents. ARFF training ensures all personnel are familiar with the subject matter and emergency response procedures. This enables an effective and coordinated response to an aircraft emergency within the City of Rogers.

To maintain and improve their skills, ARFF team members must complete an additional 48 hours of training annually. This includes annual re-certification live burns, typically held at the XNA Regional Airport. ARFF training aims to fulfill the re-certification requirements for ARFF team members and equip other department members with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for responding to aircraft-related events. Additional training and certification are offered to ARFF team members such as ARFF Driver/Operators, Advanced Aviation Firefighters, Airport Command and Control, and ARFF Driver/Operators.

Training

Training for the ARFF team will be scheduled as required by SOP 603 Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Team Organization.  Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Training and Special Operations, the ARFF Coordinator and ARFF Team Trainer will develop an annual plan to coordinate team and shift training.

ARFF minimum training standards are designed to validate competency in ARFF-required skills and identify opportunities for training or deficiencies that need to be addressed at the individual and department levels. This process will also ensure that all training is documented to meet the required knowledge and skills in two key areas.

  • NFPA 405: Standard for Recurring Proficiency of Airport Fire Fighters
  • NFPA 1003: Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications
