The City of Rogers seeks to engage three artists or artist teams to create and install site-specific artwork for three water towers intended for the newly redesigned Frisco Park. By engaging in a visual artwork activation such as this, the City of Rogers hopes to both enhance the park experience for park-goers and provide critical support to the local creative class. The City of Rogers invites artists and artist teams of all mediums to submit proposals (not to exceed $20,000 per tower) for the intended before May 15, 2020. As part of the creative proposal process, artists should consider Rogers’ vibrant culture, history, values, and stories.
With a grant from the Walton Family Foundation, the City embarked on a project to design a new downtown park that will enhance economic development, spur place-making, and improve connectivity. A community engagement process resulted in five values that ultimately steer the larger project design intention - Inviting, Memorable, Challenging, Beautiful, and Authentic.
The water towers function to provide water for the children’s play yard. While referred to as “water
towers,” functionally the structure is hollow, meaning the inside of the tower is visible. As such,
internal paint applications may be considered although not necessarily prioritized in the proposal. The
site is open to the public and will be highly visible in Downtown Rogers.
One of the three water towers has a digital feature called a watermark. Watermark is a digitally
controlled water display technology that allows for the projection of patterns, messages, and the like.
Artist(s) or artist team(s) are encouraged to think creatively, and submit proposals accordingly.
