National Weather Service Update Forecast for January 10

The City of Rogers would like to make all residents and visitors aware of the upcoming weather forecast conditions. The National Weather Service is expecting severe thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon with approximately 2 to 3 inches of rainfall amounts possible. The thunderstorms are expected to last until midnight and transition into a wintry mix in the early hours of Saturday morning, likely leading to hazardous driving conditions. Light ice accumulation and 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible across Northwest Arkansas on Saturday.

City officials are continuing to monitor these conditions, and our Streets Department has a plan in place and is prepared to act if necessary. We encourage all residents and visitors to take the following precautions:

  • Avoid/Minimize travel. In the chance of freezing conditions, you are encouraged to stay off of the roads; however, if you must travel, do so with extreme caution, be aware of current and future weather conditions, and keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle.
  • Be sure to have a safety plan in place for you and your family (and bring your pets inside). This includes planning for essential medications, contact information, food, water and pets.
  • Prepare for power outages. In the chance of a power outage, it is important to have batteries, flashlights, an alternate heating source and a battery-operated radio to monitor weather conditions available.
  • Keep a list of updated, local emergency contact information. You can find a list of Community Services Resources on our website at http://www.rogersar.gov/512/Community-Services-Resources.
  • Monitor your local weather stations frequently for any developments. You may access the National Weather Service and monitor updates for our area at www.weather.gov/tulsa.
