Rogers, AR, November 19, 2019 --- Following yesterday’s meeting of the Rogers Museum Commission with Mayor Greg Hines, the City of Rogers has selected Serena Barnett as the new Director for the recently renovated museum. Barnett plans to begin serving in her new role on Monday, December 9, 2019.
Having earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Arkansas and Masters of Arts in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University, Barnett has a broad understanding of current best practices in the museum field. Mayor Hines remarked, “Serena captured our attention with her vision and enthusiasm for Rogers and the museum. She knows the importance of the museum as an anchor in our downtown growth.”
Barnett discovered her passion for history and museums while working for the Rogers Historical Museum in the early 2000s. For over a decade, she has worked with various historical organizations as an educator, archivist, event coordinator, and site supervisor. Her field experiences include time served in roles at the Pea Ridge National Military Park, Gilcrease Museum, and with the Tulsa Historical Society.
Barnett embraces the future as a steward of the past. She is well acquainted with the history of Rogers and the surrounding region as her family’s heritage in the area dates back to the 1830s.
