Testing Process & How to Apply

Entry Level Testing

The entry level firefighter testing process consists of the following:

  • Complete the Fire Department Employment Application for employment.
  • Complete the FireTEAM exam through the National Testing Network (NTN).
    • The exam is available locally, but the candidates may submit scores from any NTN approved site.
  • Complete and pass the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT); The test is delivered locally through the NWA Fire Chiefs, but can also be taken at other testing sites throughout the country.
  • After completing these steps, the department will contact you and schedule you to complete the remaining steps that include:
    • Interview with the Civil Service Commission
    • Interview with the Fire Chief or his designee
    • Completion of criminal background investigation.
  • If an offer of employment is made to the candidate, a subsequent medical examination, along with drug screen, will take place.

After Employment Is Offered

Once employment is offered, candidates will go through a 1-year probation period. During this time candidates will be expected to successfully complete an 18-week Fire Academy provided by the City of Rogers unless they've completed a comparable fire academy or have prior experience as a career firefighter.
